While planning our big road trip, we knew we wanted to have a drone along with us for the journey. But, we weren’t really in the place to buy one. So, I tried to get creative and after a little research I discovered Blue Skies Drone Rental. Instead of investing in a piece of equipment we couldn’t currently afford, we decided to give the rental a shot. For us, it was the ideal choice because we needed it for a specific trip. This rental would allow us to get more comfortable using the drone and then we could decide if it was worth the investment. Blue Skies Drone Rental was the perfect compromise.
There are many benefits to a rental and at the end of the trip, we could make the decision to buy one or not. After our experience, John and I know that we will definitely be buying a drone in the future. But for now, I am so glad we decided to rent a drone for this road trip. Here’s why we think everyone should rent a drone for their next vacation:
Cheaper than Buying One
Drones are expensive, and the good ones worth purchasing are worth the money. But, if you only plan on using it a few times a year, or just on your yearly family vacation, that big purchase may not make financial sense. This is where a rental is the ideal compromise. I found the rental prices through Blue Skies Drone Rental extremely reasonable. For the month, the rental cost us $399.00, with a refundable deposit of $590 to cover any possible damages. A new DJI Phantom 4 costs around $1,199.00, and if you damage it, chances are that’s the end of your drone life. Definitely do the math before you decide, but chances are it will be cheaper to rent than buy.
Try Before You Buy
If you rent one for vacation and decide you love it, you can make the big purchase, especially if you see yourself using it often. If you realize you love it, but have little use for one outside of your yearly vacation, you can stick to a rental. It just makes sense to me that you have the chance to use it before making a big purchase. I often regret my big purchases, and while I can foresee myself using a drone often as a travel writer, it still was beneficial for me to get the hang of it on this trip. I was extremely nervous handling the drone, but after some time, I got the hang of it and even liked it. It was great to be able to experiment without feeling like I fully committed.
Epic Travel Photos
Let’s be honest, this is the main reason you’ll want to rent a drone. A drone allows users to obtain shots they’d never be able to with a regular camera. We were able to capture mountainscapes and shots of canyons we wouldn’t have been able to capture otherwise. The creativity is endless on your part and my only regret was that we didn’t have any opportunities to use the drone in a more tropical locations. I love ocean and beach shots with a drone, but we didn’t have any beach time on our trip. In the future, I would rent a drone for a tropical getaway. Still those shots we did get are pretty epic, and I am so glad we had the drone around to capture them.
Variety of Drones to Choose From
While we knew we wanted to rent the DJI Phantom 4, we had a variety of other drones to choose from. I loved knowing that we had many different options for what we were looking for. I had been around a few Phantoms in the past and felt most comfortable using them. I also thought that was what I may decide to purchase in the future, so it’s what we decided to go with. Still Blue Skies offers a variety of drones to choose from. I loved having that choice and being able to browse and see what else was out there.
Easy Delivery and Returns
The delivery and return process couldn’t have been easier. I had the package delivered to Florida where John was based, so I wouldn’t have to worry about bringing it on the plane. It was in a backpack, so transportation would have been easy, but I was traveling carry-on only and didn’t want to change those plans. In the box was our return slip, and we just had to pack the drone away and take it to the nearest Fed Ex Store. It was almost a little too easy considering we weren’t ready to part ways with it.
After you return your drone, if you feel like you’re experiencing separation anxiety, you can purchase a new or used drone through Blue Skies Drone Rental. This makes the sting of returning it a bit better. Plus, their service is really top notch, so it’s a good place to think about making your purchase.
From my experience, I would recommend renting a drone from Blue Skies in a heartbeat, especially if you aren’t sure you want to make that big purchase. It’s a great way to capture those travel moments in a unique way, one different than you’ve ever been able to do before. For that alone, it is worth it!
pin this for later!
A big thank you to Blue Skies Drone Rental for hooking us up with a rental for the road trip. As always all opinions are my own.
