While I love travel in any form, there’s something particularly special about a road trip. The combination of adventure and the open road seems to lead to endless possibilities. I think about rolling the windows down, blasting the music, and singing along as I drive through unfamiliar terrain. Luckily, this is how I will be spending the month of March. My next adventure is a road trip, and a quite unique one at that.
For the past two months, I have been working hard to plan my next journey. Yes, planning is something I rarely do, but with a very specific goal at hand, planning was a bit more necessary than usual. Since I would like this trip to be a bit of a surprise, I won’t reveal too much and instead have you follow the trip on social media. In the meantime, I thought it would be fun to make a quiz, so you can see what road trip should you take next?
What did you get? I’d love for you to share your answer in the comments!
Oh, and I guess it’s time for me to reveal where I am going. As my 2017 bucket list item to honor of my friend, Anita Mac, I said that I wanted to travel to the fourteen states I have left to explore in the United States. Since there’s an interesting way to make this one big trip, that’s what I planned to do. I will revisit a few favorite places along the way, but the majority of the trip will be full of exciting, new experiences! These are states I don’t know much about, but the more I’ve planned and learned, the more I can’t believe it has taken me this long to get to them.
I don’t want to spill too many more details, but I’d love for you to follow along on the adventure. I’ll be sharing everything on social media and using the hashtag #wanderingtheusa. The trip will take place during the entire month of March, and I will visit thirteen of the states I need. All I will have left is Alaska, which I am planning to visit before the year ends.
At the beginning of the year, I said that that checking off my states would be my bucket list dedication to Anita Mac, a friend I lost in 2013. I’d like to make that dedication mean a little bit more this year, so I’ve set up a GoFundMe page in her honor. Over the four week trip, I’d like to raise $1,000 a week for the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation.
As for the trip, after long delays last night, I arrived in Orlando at 2:30am. Today, we will be relaxing and enjoying the pool at our KOA accommodations. Then tomorrow, we will head to Disney World before we kick off this adventure! I’ve been to Florida and Disney before, but it’s the perfect place to begin this exciting journey. Where do you think we’ll go from here?
