When I’m not traveling, I still like to find unique experiences nearby, which is why I recently planned a little lazy summer Sunday in Warwick. Located in Upstate New York, Warwick isn’t too far from where I live, but with a 45-minute drive it feels very far away from home. There are wide open spaces and it’s less crowded and hectic than where I am from. It’s the perfect place for an escape, especially when I can’t get too far away from home.
I’ve spent some time there in the past, but this Sunday in July was especially relaxing. I felt I could fully be present and enjoy the summer before it slowly started to slip away again.
The winery is the ideal spot to spend an afternoon. There’s usually live music which can be enjoyed from tables and chairs or from the lawn where you can picnic. Inside, you can taste the wine, buy a bottle, and some snacks, or you can pick up some cider or wine at the bar outside. There’s also delicious pizza if you get hungry. We spent a few hours here that day, soaking up the sun and enjoying the day.
Set atop a hill, it has one of the best views around and ice cream that’s just as good. My good friend, Alicia, lives close by to Bellvale, so I’ve been before, but it remains one of my favorite ice cream spots in the area. The ingredients are fresh and delicious, plus there are so many flavors to choose from. The creamery has been serving the area since 1819, and its customers are very loyal, which is easy to understand; it’s the best place to end a summer day.
I grew up loving the 1950’s and wishing that drive-in movies were still in operation. The closest I ever got was the drive-in restaurant in Disney World, until a few years ago, when my cousins told me about the drive-in in Warwick. On this visit to Warwick, I knew I wanted to see a movie, so the perfect summer spot for that was the drive-in theater. After wine and ice cream, we made a pit stop to the grocery store, picked up a few snacks, and sat back to enjoy Finding Dory. I can’t think of a better way to spend an evening in the summer.
If you’re looking for the perfect escape from city or suburban life, you don’t have to look too far. Warwick is the ideal spot for a day trip and an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It’s a chance to escape, slow down, and take in the little things in life.
