On our longest day of driving, from South Sioux City, Nebraska to Hot Springs, South Dakota, we veered off Highway 90 for Highway 240, the scenic stretch of road that makes its way through Badlands National Park. It took us a little bit out of the way, but it was completely worth the extra hours in the car, and the fifteen dollar entrance fee, which is valid for seven days.
We didn’t have much time to spend, since we wanted to make it to Mt. Rushmore and our hotel in Hot Springs before dark. But, we made it work and were able to see much of the park. It has also inspired me to make my way back to South Dakota to spend more time in there in the future, especially on some of its trails. But, for now, here are a few of my favorite photos from our drive through.
There was something very freeing about being in a place that felt otherworldly, especially after miles and miles of flat land and cornfields. The area was so diverse and interesting, and it was difficult to capture the true beauty of all that lay ahead of us.
