Where to Go Next: 5 Countries I’m Currently Dreaming About

Where to Go Next: 5 Countries I’m Currently Dreaming About

After last summer’s travel debacle, I have tried to keep relatively quiet about any upcoming travel plans. Instead of posts announcing and leading up to future travel plans, I’ll make an announcement on social media as those plans are unfolding. It’s not as fun as the way I’ve done it in the past, but last year’s experience was heartbreaking and having to explain my situation to so many people didn’t make it any easier.

While I’ve been busy planning upcoming excursions, I have also been dreaming up new locales I hope to visit. The more I travel, the more I want to see; for me, this journey is endless.

It feels as though I haven’t been on a true adventure in a long time, and that’s why I have picked the following locations as the five countries I am currently dreaming of. These aren’t all new to my list, but my desire to visit them continues to grow stronger over time. So, where to next? Here are the five countries I am hoping to add to my list of places visited very soon.

It’s hard for me to believe that India is still on my list of places to visit. This time last year, I was full of anticipation and excitement for my two weeks in Bangalore, but after plans fell apart, India remains on the very top of my list. When I finally do get there, I’d like to spend a few months there and see as much of it as I can. Each region varies from food to culture and experiences, and I want to soak up as much of it as I can. I would also like to get my yoga teacher certification while there, so that I can pursue a passion of mine when I return home.

While I’m pretty sure my original Morocco obsession started because of Disney World’s Epcot, it has only been made stronger over the years through hearing of other people’s experiences in the country. I have always been intrigued by the architecture, culture, and people, and I think I’m overdue for a visit. From trekking in the Atlas Mountains to wandering the souks of Marrakech, there’s so much to see and do; I want to experience all Morocco has to offer.

Tanzania has also been on my list for years, but back in 2012 when I visited Africa, I chose instead to head to the south. While I have no regrets about my decisions, that trip only further ignited my desire to see all of Africa. Three years later, I cannot believe I have not returned. While I don’t have immediate plans, I do know that I want to experience East Africa next, and Tanzania is at the top of my list. While there is so much to see and do, the main pull for me is Mount Kilimanjaro. In that past few years, my love of hiking and the outdoors has grown and climbing Kilimanjaro has become a priority.

Colombia has also been on my mind for the past few years and the beauty of both its cities and coastal regions are the reason why. Reading and hearing others’ stories and seeing their photos of the South American country have only made it move further up the list. Since I have only been to Chile, I’d love to see more of the continent, and I am planning on starting with Colombia.

This is a recent addition to my must-visit-soon list. While I had my sights set on Costa Rica for years, and still do, Belize has made its way up on the list. The more I read and research about the country, the greater my urgency to visit is. From the culture and history to the jungle and beautiful beaches, there doesn’t seem to be an end in the list of places to see and things to do. Plus, I don’t know many people who have been there, which makes a visit to the country even more intriguing.

While this is just the beginning of a very long list of places, my wanderlust has been getting a bit out of control lately, and I thought it would be best to focus my thoughts. I don’t know when I’ll get to these places, but I am hoping it’s very soon.

If you have been to any of the countries listed above, I’d love to hear all about where I should go and why. If I haven’t mentioned a place you think I should have, tell me why I should go there.

Spread the love

I went to Marrakech this year for a long weekend and it was amazing – I loved it !

I really must make my way there soon! Long overdue…

Great list! All countries I’d love to go to as well. I really regret not going to Tanzania when I was in Uganda and Kenya and hanging by the beach and going on a spice tour in Zanzibar.

You’ll just have to make your way back! I really want to visit Uganda, Kenya, and Rwanda, as well. So many amazing places to see and people to meet. 🙂

Great choices, I was in Tanzania last year, you shouldn’t skip out on Zanzibar if you go all that way. The contrast of a safari and the mainland, mostly Christian Tanzanians with the predominantly Muslim Zanzibar (Stonetown, beaches, markets) is not to be missed. Both sides of Belize (Cayes and Mayan ruins) also an awesome contrast in a single trip. Colombia still on my list! Enjoy!

I am very excited for Zanzibar, I have such an interest in all of Tanzania. Should be awesome when I finally get there. Both sides of Belize too!

I think we should go to Belize together. Just saying.

I’d love to return to Colombia and see even more of Tanzania. I never did make it to the coast. Kilimanjaro is an experience! Not exactly a technical climb but still a challenge. I hope you go for it!

I think we should go everywhere together to be honest. Don’t you worry, I will go for it! 🙂

  5. Kieu

Ah, India. I do daydream about returning one day. Colombia and Belize has been on my wanderlust list lately, too. I’d love to go diving in Belize and eat my way through Columbia. 😉

    1. The World Wanderer

Sounds like the perfect ways to experience each country. If you’re looking for a travel partner, let me know!

I have not been to any of these five countries, and I would like to visit them all. Good possibility that one of them will be checked off by the end of the year. I am debating between either Colombia or Brazil later this year.

    1. The World Wanderer

Why not both?! AND why not invite your favorite wanderer. 😉

  7. lola

I want to go to Morocco with you!! Actually I want to go everywhere with you. I’m hiking Kilimanjaro in January. YES. You read that right.

    1. The World Wanderer

Done and done! Ohhh, Kili!! Not sure January will work, but let’s do the others together for sure! xx

Hey Erin! I found your blog because I’m writing a review of Spoon Food Tours in San Juan and happened to see yours. I’m actually quitting my job and heading to Colombia in the fall for the start of some long-term travel! If you end up making it there, feel free to get in touch!
