Street Art of London: Photo Essay

Over time, street art has become a big obsession of mine; I love when the ordinary gets a makeover by art. While I completely fell in love with street art this summer in Santiago, Chile, that love grew deeper on my most recent trip to London.

I wasn’t expecting the street art of London to have such an affect on me, in fact I wasn’t expecting it at all, and I think that is why it made its mark on me. While walking around the East End, I was stuck by its beauty and how it seemed to blend in and match the attitude of the neighborhood.

I have been to London in the past and have pictures of the street art from that time period, but they didn’t stay with me after I left. This time, however, I am filled with memories of bright colors and unique installations that decorated the streets.

Here are a few of my favorites:

While the street art was vastly different from that of Santiago, I fell in love with it all the same. Something about the way it brought the streets to life, making me look at London in an entirely new light.

London street art is pretty awesome. There’s a great account on Instagram called @ST_ART_LDN that posts photos of all the various street art there! 🙂

It is everywhere, especially in some of the neighborhoods. My wife’s uncle lives out west in a neighborhood not far from Heathrow. Very nice neighborhood. But street art everywhere. Living in a southern U.S. city we just don’t have street art like you see in big international cities.

It is definitely true street art in Europe, unlike the non-understandable ethnic graffiti here in the U.S.

Thanks! I love Philly’s too, but I think Santiago has my favorite.

I love the bird pictured. So pretty! I felt the same way about the graffiti in Rio. There are some great artists running around with cans of spray paint.

    1. The World Wanderer

There definitely are! The bird is my favorite too. 🙂

Really great collection of street-art you’ve found there. I particularly like that last image where they’ve used a black background and white images- bit of a contrast to what you’d normally expect. Lovely blog, keep it up! Katie
