Ice, Ice Baby: Heading to an Ice Hotel.

Ice, Ice Baby: Heading to an Ice Hotel.

In January, I named 2013 the Year of No Limits and while I plan on taking control of my life in many different directions, currently I am focusing on my hatred of winter. In staying open minded, so far I have gone winter hiking and skiing, and have plans to snowshoe, snowboard, cross country ski, ice fish, and dogsled before the end of the season. I have to admit, that all of these plans have made winter much more enjoyable. Instead of waiting for the season to be over to start living my life, I am enjoying each and every second by doing activities that are only available this time of year.

But, there is one activity I have plans for that will push my love/hate relationship with the cold to a new level. This weekend, I will be visiting Montreal’s Snow Village and sleeping in an ice hotel. Even though I hate being cold, I can barely contain my excitement for this unique experience.

To add to my excitement, two of my friends, and fellow travel bloggers, Lola and Anita, visited Snow Village just a few weeks ago. Their experiences were so positive, that I cannot wait to be holding my own survival certificate when I wake up the next morning. You can read all about their experiences and advice here and here.

Even better, Snow Village does not only contain an ice hotel, but there is also an ice restaurant and an ice bar. My first experience with an ice bar occurred in Vietnam, but I’m interested to see how it will differ when there’s no humidity to warm up after. Though with a variety of Amarula cocktails, my personal favorite liqueur from Africa, I’m sure I’ll be quite toasty warm from the inside out. At least this is my hope.

I may not be entirely sure what to expect this weekend, but I am ready for whatever it has in store for me. I know it will involve sleeping in a sleeping bag on a slab on ice, but beyond that, I am just hoping I have the strength to make it through the night. I’m sure a few drinks at the ice bar will help do the trick. Stay tuned and be sure to follow me and my experience on Twitter and Instagram.

Spread the love

Have a great time, Erin!! I’m ALWAYS cold, but I’d be willing to try something like this once. Just because it’d definitely take me out of my comfort zone.

Sounds very cool. Any type of bar is great, but an ice one sounds fascinating. Can’t wait to hear about it.
