While traveling, music is a necessity. It tunes out distracting noises in hotel rooms and on transportation, gives long car rides a soundtrack, can cure homesickness and help ease a hangover. To me, it’s the glue that holds it all together; music is my most important travel accessory.
Not only do I prepare for all my trips by downloading new songs and organizing my music into playlists, I also enjoy discovering music through my travels. I usually leave each country with scraps of paper covered with names of bands and songs on them. I’ve been known to ask a bartender, or two, to write down the names of songs that were playing in the bar, and in Africa, I made my guides write me an entire list of songs that I took to the music store on the waterfront, where, of course, I stayed for hours.
Since it is such an important part of my travels, I thought it would be nice to share my favorite bands and songs with you, and maybe help you discover something new for your travels. I like a variety of music, so I hope that there’s something on here for you and your future travels, whether it’s the perfect road trip song, something to help you sleep on the plane, or your new favorite song to get ready for a night on the town.
Currently, I am loving the song Hero by the indie band from California, Family of the Year. I love driving to it, which makes it the perfect road trip song. Happy listening!
I also love the acoustic version, which you can find here.
