Today is my 28th birthday! To celebrate, my mom and I decided to take a little last minute adventure to the happiest place on earth…Disney World!
Disney has been a place where many of my childhood memories were made. As the first born child in the entire family, I visited Disney with both sets of grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, family friends…the list goes on and on.
But, it has been almost ten years since I last visited, seeking out more off-the-beaten-path destinations. With so many new places to go, why revisit an old location?
Except, for years, my mom has wanted to visit Disney during the holidays, and for years, we’ve been saying how nice it would be to spend my birthday at the park. Yet year after year, life just got in the way of making that dream a reality.
Until this year, when I decided, enough was enough. The woman who gave birth to me deserved a little celebration too, I mean, sure it was my birthday, but it was also the day my mom became a mom. It came to a point where, “We’ll do it another year,” just wasn’t going to cut it. Life gets in the way of plans, if you let it, and you never know what’s around the corner. Which is why, last minute, we booked a trip.
It has been years since my mom and I have traveled alone together – let’s just say it was while visiting colleges. Even though I’m starting to realize why, we are completely different types of travelers, I know, that if we didn’t go, I would have regretted it forever. Because when it comes down to it, she’s the real reason I have the adventurous spirit I do, plus, she suggested we celebrate my birthday with a drink in every country at The World Showcase in Epcot. Seriously, what’s not to love about this woman?
Here’s to the next forty-eight hour ride, and many more to come!
