Inspired by Paris

Inspired by Paris

This week’s inspiration is Paris. It’s one of the most romantic cities in the world, and lately, it’s been on my mind. Day and night, I seem to dream of walking the city streets and overlooking The Seine, sitting in Ladurée eating macarons, lounging in a park reading a book, eating fresh bread with cheese and a glass of wine, kissing someone under The Eiffel Tower. No matter what I do, I can’t seem to get The City of Lights out of my head.

Paris was always a place I dreamed about, and in 2007, after graduating from college, I had my first opportunity to explore the city. As a graduation present, my incredibly generous uncle took me on a trip to visit the city I’ve imagined myself in for years. That was my first taste of the city, but since then I’ve been longing for more.

And now, between Miss Dior Cherie Commercials, listening to Cœur de Pirate and Carla Bruni, and watching Midnight in Paris, the love affair I have with all things French seems to continue on.

While, I don’t know when I’ll make it back to La Ville-Lumière, the ideal time for me would be to see it one day in the spring, hand in hand with someone I love. I’m not sure when that will happen, but for now, I’ll continue be inspired by the French, allowing myself to continue to dream until I’m finally able revisit.

It would just be so romantic! I hope someone takes you there too! 🙂

  2. Where's Pablo

Paris is something else, I’ve been wanting to go back for a while now. Especially since that movie, hopefully sometime soon!

That movie just showcases Paris in a way that makes you want to go. I dream about Paris almost all the time now! When were you there last?

      1. Where's Pablo

Kinda funny actually, last time I was there was 2007 during the summer. I’ll be in France for maybe a day or two this summer but not sure if I’ll make it to Paris. I’m going to be spending most of the time in Spain.

      2. The World Wanderer

That is too funny! Wow, your summer sounds amazing! What are you doing in Spain?

  3. Where's Pablo

I’ll be walking El Camino de Santiago. A 500 mile pilgrimage route to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain. It takes an average of 30 days and I’m hoping to finish it with the running of the bulls in Pamplona. I’ve never been to Spain and running of the bulls would be nerve racking and awesome!

Sounds incredible, Pablo! Spain is beautiful, I think I could live there. Either way, you’ll have lots to write about! When do you leave?

      1. Where's Pablo

I’ve never been, I’m sure it will be amazing though. Being fluent in Spanish should help too. I’ll leave either the first or second week of June.

Have you been to Spain too? Did you end up finalizing your summer trip?

        1. The World Wanderer

Spanish will definitely come in handy. It’s time for me to learn a language already!

I was in Spain in 2007 – same trip as Paris. Most of the time was spent in Madrid, with day trips to Toledo and Segovia. So beautiful!

Nothing is finalized yet, maybe today? I haven’t had the right time to sit and think about it – it’s a big trip! I figure I’ll book the tour and then flights can come later, since I’d like to stay in South Africa for a little while after.

I don’t do so many city breaks myself but I did enjoy Paris – Montmartre and Notre Dame on the island were special; as for the Eiffel Tower – awesome!

I know, I really need to get back. Have you seen Midnight in Paris? They film the city beautifully.

      1. Pete Buckley

No I havn’t yet but I’ll look out for it.

        1. The World Wanderer

Definitely do! It’s a brilliant film.

Ah, Paris – my great, great love. I’m surprised I didn’t bring a box if tissues to the screening of Midnight in Paris…

I’ve been three times so far and I can never get enough. I’ve visited in summer and winter, but – just like you – I want to go there in spring. I have a feeling it’s the best time to experience the city weather-wise (even if outdoor cafes are open year-round).

A while ago, I wrote a post about this April in Paris itch – if you care to read it, here’s the link: http://bit.ly/KOLMMw.

I hope you return to Paris soon!
