“Traveling is a brutality.
It forces you to trust strangers and to lose sight of all that familiar comfort of home and friends.
You are constantly off balance.
Nothing is yours except the essential things – air, sleep, dreams, the sea, the sky – all things tending towards the eternal or what we imagine of it.”
This sums up what travel is to me, and the idea that even though it’s harsh, it gives us back what we need most in life. The news and media has made us afraid of strangers and the world, but travel teaches us there’s no need for fear.
When we are traveling, we forget all that is non-essential and focus on the only things we need to live in this life: air, sleep, dreams, the sea, and the sky.
